Fellow fans, it’s another exciting time in Major League Soccer (MLS)! The legendary Venezuelan striker José Martínez not only gave his new club, the San José Earthquakes, a key victory in the new season, but also made his mark on the MLS all-time goal scoring list.
Martinez joined the San Jose Earthquakes as a free agent after spending 2024 with Montreal CF. He opened his scoring account with his new team in a very historic way against Sporting Kansas City. The match was held at Children’s Mercy Park and the San Jose Earthquakes won 2-1. During the match, after a corner kick opportunity, Martinez capitalized on a mix-up in front of the goal and scored. The goal was not only the key to the win, but also a major milestone in his career — his 117th goal in MLS regular-season play. With the goal, he tied New York Red Bulls legend and current MLS Season Pass Analyst Bradley Wright-Phillips for sixth place on the league’s all-time scoring list.
